CSR: Make a Lasting Impact in Tondo, Manila

A Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Initiative with Real Meaning

In the heart of Tondo, Manila—one of the most impoverished slum areas in the Philippines—families are struggling to survive. Many go without proper meals, often relying on scraps and leftovers salvaged from bins outside food establishments. This cycle of poverty has persisted for generations, leaving children malnourished and families in constant hardship.

Tondo is home to some of the poorest communities in the country. Children rarely get a full meal each day. Parents, many of whom are single or absent due to incarceration, illness, or death, often go hungry so their children can eat. Orphaned children are frequently taken in by relatives or neighbours who are themselves barely getting by.

We are working in partnership with a local church in Tondo that is dedicated to transforming lives in this underserved community. Volunteers from the church share the gospel, offer emotional support, and provide warm meals—often as simple as rice, boiled eggs, and vegetables. For many, this is the only full meal they’ll have that week.

The church also runs a preschool program to teach basic literacy skills, giving children a chance to enroll in public elementary school—something not possible without the ability to read or write. Without education, these children risk repeating the cycle of poverty, ending up scavenging for scraps just to survive.

But there is hope. Together with the local church, we aim to break the cycle of generational poverty through:

  • Sponsorship of preschool teachers and educational programs
  • Skills training for youth and young adults
  • Feeding programs for children and families
  • Sponsorships to support children’s enrollment in Elementary and High School

We are inviting companies in Singapore and beyond to be a part of this mission through your Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives. Your involvement can make a tangible difference—whether through donations, sponsorships, or hands-on participation.

Ways You Can Help:

  • Sponsor a child’s education and meals a year
  • Fund teaching staff and vocational trainers
  • Support feeding programs with one-time, weekly, or monthly donations of meals, groceries, and hygiene products
  • Organize a company CSR trip to Manila to interact with the children, distribute supplies, or conduct learning sessions

It only takes SGD$100 to sponsor a child for a month of food, essentials and education.
Together we can make a difference to break the cycle of poverty for these children.

Companies are also welcome to visit the community. Your team can join us on-site to give out donations, conduct English reading and writing sessions, or even organize a fun and meaningful outing for the children—many of whom have never left their slum area.

As part of your corporate retreat or incentive trip, we at The WOW Experience can fully coordinate your CSR experience in Manila—from travel and accommodation to activity planning and on-ground support.
