That is what Project CARES is about.
Project CARES—Connect, Assist, Respect, and Engage Seniors—is a National Day CSR programme that brings corporate volunteers directly into local communities to spend time with seniors, many of whom quietly shaped Singapore through decades of hard work, sacrifice, and resilience.
A Bag of Love, Packed with Meaning
The day often begins with volunteers gathered around tables, packing bags of essential items for seniors. On the surface, it’s a straightforward task—but something shifts as the bags pile up.
Each item represents comfort.
Each bag represents care.
Each volunteer understands that this isn’t about charity—it’s about respect.
Conversations That Matter
Later, volunteers head into neighbourhoods, partnering with Residential Committees and Senior Service Centres. Seniors drop by to collect their bags, but what stays with them most is the connection.
A casual chat turns into a life story.
A simple “How are you?” becomes a moment of being heard.
Some seniors talk about their kampong days. Others share concerns about daily living. Many simply enjoy having someone sit with them, unhurried, willing to listen.
Sometimes, the greatest National Day gift isn’t material—it’s presence.
Reaching Seniors Who Can’t Step Out
Not all seniors are able to join community gatherings. For those with limited mobility, Project CARES volunteers bring the programme to them—visiting homes, delivering care packs, and offering companionship.
These quiet doorstep moments often leave the deepest impact, reminding seniors that they are not forgotten.
